WACO, Texas – Baylor's cross country teams will participate in their second meet of the 2015 season by traveling north to the Ken Garland Invitational hosted by North Texas at the Eagle Point Cross Country Course in Denton, Texas, Saturday.
The women’s 5,000-meter race will start at 8:10 a.m. with the men’s four-mile run immediately following around 8:40 a.m.
Other schools competing on the men’s side will be North Texas, Louisiana Tech, Oklahoma and TCU. On the women’s side will be North Texas, Oklahoma, SMU and TCU.
The men's team, coming off a second-place finish at the season-opening Bear Twilight Invitational, will travel the majority of its roster to Denton. The Bears are slated to have their top runner from the Bear Twilight meet, Eric Anderson, in action as well as veterans Matt Galvin, JR Hardy and Jordan West, who were held out of the opening meet.
"This will be a first little test for my guys," assistant head coach Jon Capron said. "I am interested to see how having a full pack of teammates helps them. There are several good schools coming and it is a similar setup, so we should be able run even better."
For the BU women, 13 student-athletes will be in action, including Catherine Cochran, Rachel Covey, Moriah Dadson, Annie Jaska, Kasey Kinzel, Aubree Miller, Lexi Reamer, Leila Rohde, Megan Rule, Gretta Smith, Helena Van Loan, Mary Woodall and Catherine Zabilski. Many of those runners helped BU claim the title at the Bear Twilight Invitational.
Baylor last competed at the meet in 2013 with the men placing second and the women finishing third. Following the meet at North Texas, both squads will compete at the Gerald Richey Invitational in Grand Prairie, Texas, on Sept. 19.
