WACO, Texas - After claiming the team title at the season-opening Bear Twilight Invitational, the Baylor women's cross country team will be back in action on Friday and Saturday.

BU enjoyed an off week following the win at its home meet on Aug. 30. Select student-athletes will now travel to the Iowa Black & Gold Invite to race on Friday at 6 p.m. in Iowa City, Iowa, while the rest of the team competes at the UTA Season Opener in Arlington, Texas, on Saturday at 8 a.m.

"We got a lot of work in during our off week," head coach Todd Harbour said. "I am excited to see not only what our group in Iowa does, but also what the group going to UTA gets accomplished. It is going to be good to get our young team some experience this weekend and for the Iowa group to run in some cooler weather."

The Iowa meet will be held at the Ashton Cross Country Course with the women running a 4K-course. The meet will feature other women's teams from Alabama, Iowa and Iowa State. BU will have 10 runners in action in Iowa including Alex Davis, Sarah Guhl, Erin Hegarty, Lauren Hierholzer, Rachel Johnson, Mariah Kelly, Maggie Montoya, Erika Overbeck, Bree Schrader and Peyton Thomas.

The UTA Season Opener will take place at Lynn Creek Park on a 5K-course. That field includes teams from SMU, UALR, Louisiana-Monroe, Midwestern State, North Texas and UTA. A total of 16 runners will represent Baylor at the meet including Haleigh Blackwell, Kristina Brown, Courtney Cox, Jenna Henrich, Saphire Hughes, Meredith Jackson, Annie Jaska, Jessica Purtell, Lexi Reamer, Gretta Smith, Lindsey Smith, Lauren Stevens, Angela Tharpe, Kim Walbek, Mary Woodall and Catherine Zabilski.

At the Bear Twilight Invitational, BU was led by Johnson, who earned Big 12 Runner of the Week honors for winning the event in a time of 13:33.2. Baylor had five freshmen finish in its top eight at that meet with Davis, Madie Zimmerman and Montoya taking places second, third and fifth, respectively. Sophomore Hegarty was BU's other scoring runner in third.

The men's team has the week off and will not be back in action until Sept. 28.
