WACO, Texas - Baylor's women's cross country team was ranked in a ninth-place tie with Texas-Arlington in the first edition of the weekly South Central Regional Coaches' Cross Country Poll released Wednesday.

Arkansas took top billing in both the men's and women's polls and garnered every first-place vote. On the women's side, the Lady'Backs were followed in the rankings by Texas A&M, Texas Christian, Texas, Rice, Tulane, McNeese State and New Orleans.

On the men's side, Tulane was second, followed by Southern Methodist, Texas, Rice, Texas A&M, Southwest Texas State, North Texas, Texas-Arlington and Texas Christian.

Baylor's 2000 season was scheduled to begin two weeks ago at the Rice Relays, however, the event was cancelled because of heavy lightning in the Houston area. Instead, the Bears will kick off their season next weekend, hosting the Baylor Invitational at the Texas Farm Bureau Course the morning of Sept. 23.
