WACO, Texas -- Baylor's cross country teams will participate in their second meet of the 2016 season by traveling north to the Ken Garland Invitational hosted by North Texas at the Eagle Point Cross Country Course in Denton, Texas, Saturday.
The women's 5,000-meter race will start at 8:10 a.m. with the men's four-mile run immediately following around 8:40 a.m.
Other schools competing on the men's side will be North Texas, Oklahoma, TCU, UT-Arlington, Abilene Christian, Letourneau University, Texas Wesleyan University and Wiley College.
The men's team, coming off a 1-1 finish in the dual-meet format at the season-opening Bear Twilight Invitational, will travel the majority of its roster to Denton. The Bears are slated to have all five of their top runners (Eric Anderson, Henry Huff, Jeff Kirwin, Matthew Parham and Sean McCullough) from the Bear Twilight meet in action, plus freshmen Matt Henderson and Devin Meyrer, who will be running their first collegiate races, and veterans Matt League and Jordan West, who were held out of the opening meet.
For the BU women, 15 student-athletes will be in action, including Alison Andrews-Paul, Emily Curran, Amanda Dillon, Haley Everroad, Micaela Freeman, Sydney Gandy, Kasey Kinzel, Isabella Lackner, Hana Marsheck, Aaliyah Miller, Katy Parsons, Jessica Purtell, Leila Rohde, Megan Rule and Lindsay Walton. All five of BU's top-five performers from the Bear Twilight meet will have the weekend off.
Baylor last competed at the meet in 2015 with the men placing third and the women finishing sixth. Following the meet at North Texas, the women's squad will compete at the Texas A&M Invitational on Sept. 24 in College Station, Texas, while the men have the weekend off.
