IRVING, Texas - Baylor women's cross country runner Rachel Johnson earned her second Big 12 Runner of the Week honor of the season, the league's office announced on Tuesday.
The Plano, Texas native tallied her fourth career conference honor by winning the Iowa Black & Gold Invite on Friday with a time of 13:56.28 on the 4K course. She was 2.72 faster than her nearest competitor.
The individual accomplishment helped the BU women take third as a team at the meet.
The victory for Johnson comes just two weeks, after she won the season-opening Bear Twilight Invitational. She was awarded the Big 12's weekly award following that win as well.
Last year, Johnson won Big 12 Runner of the Week accolades after taking the Bear Twilight title in a school-record time of 13:28.5. The following week Johnson claimed another league weekly honor following a win at the UTA Season Opener.
In the 17-year history of the Big 12, BU female runners have been honored 19 times. Johnson has now won more Big 12 weekly honors than any other BU cross country runner. She passes Nichole Jones, who won three awards in 2007-08.
Baylor will be off next weekend, before the men's and women's teams return to action at the North Texas Invite on Sept. 28.
