WACO, Texas - Erin Bedell was named the Big 12 Runner of the Week for Sept. 23 the conference office announced. This marks the second weekly award for Baylor this season as Nichole Jones was named runner of the week on Sept. 2.
Bedell took second overall at the Texas A&M Invitational on Friday, helping No. 24 Baylor to the team title. Baylor has won team titles in their first two meets this season, also claiming the Baylor Twilight Invitational. The Bears scored 32 team points, with four runners in the top 10, holding the edge over SMU who finished second with 60 points. The closest Big 12 team was Texas, in fourth with 101 points.
Bedell, an All-American in track as a freshman, is back to full strength after redshirting the 2006 season and struggling through the 2007 season after suffering from mononucleosis.
Baylor returns to action on Saturday as the men's team travels to the Stanford Invitational. The Lady Bears' next competition is Oct. 3 at the Paul Short Invitational.
