Cross Country Set For Notre Dame Invitational

WACO, Texas -- Baylor's cross country teams will race in the 61st-annual Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational at the Burke Golf Course in Notre Dame, Ind., on Friday.

The women's 5,000-meter race will start at 1 p.m. CT with the men’s five-mile run immediately following around 1:45 p.m. CT.

All races are strictly team races, and each team will be limited to nine runners in the team race. Teams may enter up to 15 individuals and run additional team members in the 2:30 p.m. CT open race.

For the BU women, who are coming off a second-place finish at last weekend’s Texas A&M Invitational, 11 student-athletes will make the trip, including Alison Andrews-Paul, Lindsey Bradley, Alex Davis, Kathryn Foreman, Hana Marsheck, Aaliyah Miller, Maggie Montoya Gabby Satterlee, Peyton Thomas, Anna West and Madie Zimmerman.

The women’s 2 p.m. field features 24 schools. Ranked teams competing on the women's side include Providence (No. 1), New Mexico (No. 3), North Carolina State (No. 5), Notre Dame (No. 16), Vanderbilt (No. 24) and Utah (No. 28). The Bears will also face regional rivals Texas and Texas A&M.

The men's team will be racing for the first time since winning the Ken Garland Invitational on Sept. 17. The Bears are slated to race nine individuals, including Eric Anderson, Matt Henderson, Henry Huff, Jeff Kirwin, Matt League, Sean McCullough, Devin Meyrer, Matthew Parham and Jordan West.

The men’s field features 26 teams and six ranked foes, including Eastern Kentucky (No. 9), Wisconsin (No. 12), UTEP (No. 18), Mississippi (No. 20), North Carolina State (No. 23) and Washington State (No. 24). The Bears will also face regional rivals Texas, Texas A&M and UT Arlington.

Baylor last competed at the meet in 2013 with the women’s team finishing 14th. Individually, Maggie Montoya was 41st overall (17:51.0) and Alex Davis was 101st with a time of 18:29.5.

Following the meet at Notre Dame, both the men’s and women’s teams will have next weekend off before returning to action at the Wisconsin Invitational (Oct. 14) for the women and Pre-National Invitational (Oct. 15) for the men.
