WACO, Texas - The Baylor cross country team heads to Texas A&M this weekend to take on some of the top competition from the Southwest. The University Division races begin at 9:35 Saturday morning, Oct. 12, at the A&M Golf Course. Several of the competing teams are from Texas and surrounding states.
Twenty-five teams will compete on the women's side. The ladies will run a 6,000-meter race beginning at 9:35 a.m. For the first time this season, the Baylor women will compete with a "B" squad, allowing a variety of Bear athletes to gain valuable competition experience.
The men will not take a full squad either, as individuals will compete against the other athletes from the 22-team field on the 8,000 meter course.
The full Baylor squad will head to Terre Haute, Ind. next weekend, the site of the 2002 NCAA Championships. While the Bears have spent the 2002 campaign competing on the road, they will return home for one of the most important meets of the season. The coarse to Terre Haute will run through Waco as Baylor hosts the 2002 NCAA South Central Regional at Cottonwood Country Club on November 16.
