WACO, Texas - Baylor's cross country teams will compete in a pair of meets over the weekend with the Chile Pepper Festival in Fayetteville, Ark., on Saturday and the NCAA Pre-Nationals in Terre Haute, Ind., on Sunday.
The 23rd Annual Chile Pepper is scheduled for a 10:30 a.m. start time on Saturday with the women's 6,000 meters at Agri Park, while the Pre-National will begin at 11 a.m. on Sunday with the men's 8,000 meters. The Pre-National will be hosted on the site of this year's NCAA Championships, the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course at the Wabash Valley Family Sports Center.
The Pre-National Invitational boasts one of the strongest fields of any meet in the nation, playing host to 10 nationally-ranked teams and 58 regionally-ranked teams. Six of the men's national top 30 and four of the women's national top 30 will be in attendance.
At the Chile Pepper, Baylor will be among six ranked teams, including three on each side, as well as most of the top 10 in the South Central Region.
Baylor's women ranked sixth in the region, and are led by a pair of seniors in Cate Westenhover and Kristen Hanselka, as well as a solid group of freshman. The men sit 11th in the region and are led by senior Zac Flowers and sophomore Brad Miles.
Both Baylor's men and women enter the weekend after having a weekend off, and will compete in their last meet before the Big 12 Championships in College Station, Texas, on Oct. 29.
