Cross Country Lands 10 On The 2001 Academic All-Big 12 Team
Oct. 23, 2001 WACO, Texas - 10 Baylor cross country runners were named to the 2001 Academic all-Big 12 Team the conference announced today. To be eligible for first-team academic all-league recognition student-athletes must maintain a 3.2 or better GPA and must have participated in 60% of the team's scheduled races. Second-team honorees must have a GPA between 3.0-3.19 and also met the 60% participation standard. Baylor had seven members of its women's team and three members of its men's team honored for their accomplishments in the classroom. The group was led by sophomore Megan McCoin who was recognized as one of only 12 conference cross country runners to maintain a perfect 4.0 GPA. Other women named to the first-team included Stephanie Bennett, Katherine Duncan, Erin Dixon, Leah Marbach, Lanie Millar, and Kara Newton. For the men Alex Adler and Matt Chance both earned first-team honors, while Jon Capron was named a second-team selection. Baylor cross country will return to action Sat., Oct. 27 when the Bears travel to Norman, Okla. for the 2001 Big 12 Conference Championships.
