WACO, Texas - A total of eight Baylor cross country student-athletes, four on women's side and four on the men's side were named to the 2006 Cross Country Academic All-Big 12 Teams, the conference office announced Tuesday. Baylor also claimed four of the Big 12's 13 perfect 4.0 GPAs, two more than any other school.
On the women's side, junior Lyndsy Bedell (Plano, Texas), senior Brittany Brockman (Houston, Texas) and sophomore Jennifer Marquez (McAllen, Texas) each had 4.0 GPAs and were joined on the first team by senior Brittany McGuire (Humble, Texas).
On the men's side, senior Bo Price (Atlanta, Texas) earned a 4.0 GPA and was joined on the first team by sophomores Jordan Hiller (Yoakum, Texas) and John Wenhold (Corpus Christi, Texas). Junior Hunter Garner (Keller, Texas) earned second-team honors.
Nominated by each institutions director of student-athlete support services and the media relations offices, the men's academic all-league squad consisted of 48 first-team members combined with 13 on the second team, while the women had 57 first-team recipients and eight on the second team. The first team consists of those who have a 3.20 GPA or better, and the second team are those who have between a 3.0 and 3.19 GPA.
The Bears return to action Friday at the Big 12 Championships in Lawrence, Kan.
