IRVING, Texas - The Baylor cross country team had 20 student-athletes named to the 2017 Academic All-Big 12 Cross Country Team, announced by the conference office Thursday afternoon.

BU's 20 combined selections (eight men, 12 women) are one short of a program record set in 2012 (21). Eight first-team selections on the men's side sets a new program record. The women's team's 12 total selections are the most since the 2014 season (15).

On the men's side, Eric Anderson (economics) and Matt Parham (biology) earned their third-straight first-team selections, while Jordan West (masters of community health) and Sean McCullough (biology) earned their second-straight first team honor.

Sam Sahli (mechanical engineering), Seth Brown (business), Matt Henderson (pre-business) and Devin Meyrer (psychology) all earned their first academic cross country honors.

For the women, senior Leila Rhode (accounting) earned her second first-team selection after first making the list in 2015.

Alison Andrews-Paul (public health), Lindsey Bradley (business/human relations), Haley Everroad (pre-biology), Sydney Gandy (anthropology), Kasey Kinzel (health science studies), Isabella Lackner (business fellows), Hana Marsheck (health science studies), Megan Rule (journalism/public relations), Lindsay Walton (pre-business), Anna West (nutrition) and Gabby Satterlee (medical humanities) earn their first academic cross country honors.

McCullough, Everroad and Lackner were among 28 runners across the conference that were nominated with a 4.0 grade point average.

In program history, a total of 85 student-athletes have been honored on the men's team, while 162 student-athletes make up the women's team. 198 of the 247 selections are first-team honorees. First-team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second-team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.

To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
