Head Coach Steve Smith

On the game:
"I thought we pitched it better. They have a good club, a good offensive club. I thought our guys pitched it better ... We tried to do too much on two different plays defensively that led to their runs. Brooks (Pinckard) is making a dive out there that he doesn't have to make and that led to their three runs. Then we try to make that play at the plate. We don't have to make that one either, we just need an out. Again, I think just guys trying to do a little too much. They weren't as good on the mound today. They gave us some free bases and I think we swung the bats pretty well."

On Brooks Pinckard:
"Brooks is one of the most unique athletes I have ever seen. He touched 95 (mph) on that radar gun, he has run a 60 (yard dash) in 6.4 (seconds) and he hit a ball like you saw. He is just a really unique athlete. I will go on the record and let all you guys know that I never had any intention of bringing him in the game. When I went out to see Trae (Davis) I did not realize I was out of trips, and so when I got out there the home plate umpire came out and asked me who I was bringing in and I didn't want to bring anybody in, but I had to. Brooks, fortunately had thrown a little bit the inning before, so he wasn't completely unprepared, but that was not what I wanted to do. I wanted to let Trae finish the game."

On Dillon Newman's performance:
"I didn't realize that Dillon had given up eight hits. I thought he threw pretty good. What he is learning right now is that the two-strike count is very much a real count. I imagine in the past with two strikes and him on the mound it is over with, but this is a good experience for him and a good one for us to learn from."

On Josh Ludy calling the game:
"We spent a lot of time in pregame today going through it and talking about it. I think teaching somebody to call their own game is kind of like teaching somebody to drive. It's not hard to teach someone the basics of driving, but every road is different, and the only way you learn how to drive on roads like that is experience."

Junior Centerfielder/Pitcher Brooks Pinckard

On not knowing he was going into the game:
"It was actually kind of nice. I didn't really have to think about it. I did go down there and warm up during the seventh inning, and I had enough time to get pretty loose. I think coach said he ran out of visits, so that is why he had to bring me in and fortunately we came out with the win."

On his home run:
"I saw that pitcher was a pretty powerful pitcher. He liked his fastball and threw it pretty hard. I was looking first pitch fastball and trying to put a good swing on it. (It) got up in the air and the wind took it out."

Junior Catcher Josh Ludy

On his plate appearances:
"It was good to get in there. I got in for an at-bat last night and didn't feel really comfortable. Today I got in there, felt pretty good all day, so it was a good game."

On the offense scoring runs in the first three innings:
"Anytime you can get ahead early it is always good. We don't want to get too emotionally high off that, but we did a pretty good job of staying level and then getting some more runs late in the game too."

On his work catching:
"We just tried to go after them a lot. They had some pretty good swings on balls today. Our pitchers did a pretty good job. (Jon) Ringenberg was a little more wild than normal today, but he was able to get through those three innings and then (Dillon) Newman came in for his first time and did a great job."
