WACO, Texas -
Chris Durbin's RBI single with two outs in the 12th plated Kyle Reynolds with the winning run as the ninth-ranked Bears took game one of a doubleheader from seventh-ranked Southern California Saturday at Baylor Ballpark, 2-1.
Southern California (5-4) pushed across a single run in the second to take the early 1-0 lead off starter Steven White. Joey Metropoulos led off with a double, moved to third on a sacrifice bunt and scored on a sacrifice fly for what would prove to be USC's only run of the game.
Baylor (6-3) tied the game at 1-1 in the sixth. After back-to-back singles by Ross Bennett and Michael Griffin to start the inning, Zach Dillon sacrificed the runners over and Trey Webb's flyout to left brought home Bennett to tie the game.
White went a career-long 10 innings but threw only 115 pitches. He tied his season high with nine strikeouts, did not issue a walk and allowed only five hits and the one run.
Freshman Abe Woody (2-0) pitched the final two innings, giving up two hits but no walks and striking out two.
Bennett was three-for-three in the game and scored one of Baylor's two runs; Kyle Reynolds scored the other run and was the only other Bear with more than one hit in the game.
