THE RUNDOWN
WACO, Texas- Baylor baseball cruised to a 12-1 seven-inning win over Austin Peay on Sunday afternoon at Baylor Ballpark for a series sweep. The Bears' (5-2) victory marked 20th-year head coach Steve Smith's700th career win.

Baylor struck first with two runs in the second inning and never looked back. After Adam Toth walked and Duncan Wendel singled, West Tunnell's sac bunt set up Brett Doe's RBI single and Logan Brown's RBI single to give starter Austin Stoneall the runs he needed.

But the Bears kept distancing themselves from the Governors (1-6), scoring three in the fourth and seven in the fifth. Mitch Price delivered three runs in the fourth on a bases-loaded double to right-center. The seven runs in the fifth came on just one hit as there were five HBPs, two errors, a walk and wild pitch. Darryn Sheppard, Grayson Porterand Price all had RBI HBPs for the first three runs. Toth drove another in on an infield single. Wendel brought two in on an error, and the final run scored on a wild pitch.

The inning lasted long enough for the Baylor staff to hold Stone back from pitching the sixth. In earning his first win of the season, Stone (1-0) gave up an unearned run in the third inning while allowing two hits and a walk with five strikeouts in five innings. Nick Lewis and Drew Tolsoncombined to throw the final two innings without allowing any runners.

TOP QUOTE
"[Austin Stone] looked really comfortable out there today. He's a good poker player. You can never tell when he's on simply by his demeanor because he's pretty much the same way all the time. He made a play over in front of the dugout on a popup and made some pretty good pitches. He did a good job of stranding runners." - BU head coach Steve Smith
