Postgame Quotes (Louisiana Tech 14, Baylor 6)

March 3, 2010

Recap |  Box Score

Head Coach Steve Smith

On the game:
"I felt really good about it when we got it back to a one-run game because we were swinging the bat okay. We were taking some pretty good at-bats and I didn't think what they had on the mound was going to be able to shut us down. The thing that I was impressed about with their club was their tenacity with two strikes. I think they put on a clinic for two strike hitting and it really made our guys work hard on the mound. When you put the ball in play you have a chance and they did a good job of that. We made a handful of pitches that were just not very good and they swung the bat well tonight."

On the mindset of the team after dropping four-straight games :
"I don't worry about the young ones to be honest with you as much as I worry about the older ones. I think the younger ones are just so excited to play because they are in college baseball and have never played in the ballparks that we play in. The veteran guys want to win. They don't have time left. They are leading and I like our club. We have three months of this season left and that's a long time. I'm coming out here Friday expecting that we will win but we won't win if we don't play better, particularly on the mound."

On the freshman:
"They are learning and they are seeing a lot of different things and a lot of different pitching that they haven't seen before on a consistent basis. I think for the most part that is the strength of their game. I think most of the guys are swinging the bat good early in the count when there are not a lot of guys on base and when they are getting good fastballs to hit. It is a little bit different of a game when they start trying to get you out when there are bases open. That is what they are going to have to learn."

Freshman 1B Max Muncy

On his offensive production during the midweek games:
"I would like to think (that I am locked in right now). I am just feeling good with my swing. My timing has been good and I am seeing the ball well and it is falling through for me."

On what the offense needs to rebound:
"We just need to get some hits to fall here and there. Teams that we have been playing against have been hitting balls that have just been squeaking through holes and we have just been hitting balls right at people. It is just a change of luck probably. For the most part we have all been hitting the ball pretty well."
