WACO, Texas - Shawn Tolleson struck out 10 batters in 5.1 innings, but four errors led to five unearned runs, and the junior right-handed pitcher was saddled with the loss as Oral Roberts plated four runs in the sixth inning on its way to a 6-5 win Friday night at Baylor Ballpark.

The Bears (4-6) got on the board first when Brooks Pinckard drew a leadoff walk, stole second base and came all the way around to score on Joey Hainsfurther's RBI single, giving Baylor a 1-0 lead after one inning.

It was just the second time in 10 games this season that the Bears have scored before their opponents.

Baylor added two runs onto its lead in the second inning when Landis Ware and Raynor Campbell both knocked RBI doubles.

Tolleson (1-1) was dominant through his first three innings of work, but he gave up a pair of runs in the fourth inning. ORU (2-3) starting pitcher Seth Furmanek led off with a double, and Bennett Pickar brought him home when he reached on an error. Joey Winiecki added an RBI single to cut the Baylor lead to 3-2.

Tolleson still managed to strike out two batters in the inning, giving him two strikeouts in each of his first four innings of work. He rebounded and worked a hitless fifth inning, and the Bears extended the lead back to three with runs in the fourth and fifth.

Campbell brought in Ware with another RBI double, and Dan Evatt gave Baylor a 5-2 lead after five innings when he drove in Max Muncy with a RBI single.

Tolleson went back out to work the sixth inning and struck out the first batter he faced, but Pickar singled, two consecutive batters reached on errors, and Tyler Saladino drew a walk, chasing Tolleson from the game with the bases loaded and Baylor clinging to a 5-3 lead.

Josh Turley came on in relief and gave up a two-run single to Chris Elder and a two-out RBI double to Furmanek that proved to be the game-winning hit.

Furmanek didn't factor in the decision after allowing four runs on eight hits in 4.0 innings. Jeff Burleson (1-0) came on in relief to start the fifth inning and earned the win by allowing one run in 3.0 innings of work.

Furmanek led the ORU offense, going 2-for-3 with a walk, one run and one RBI. Tyler Garewal and Winiecki both added two hits for the Golden Eagles.

ORU threatened to add to its lead when it loaded the bases with one out in the eighth, but Tom Filip came up big out of the Baylor bullpen. He struck out Brett Sowers and got a groundout from Colby Price to escape the jam with the Bears only down one.

Filip again gave the Bears a chance by working a scoreless ninth inning, but Baylor couldn't manage and offense against Bryce Smolen, who worked 2.0 innings of hitless relief to earn the save.

Pinckard went 2-for-3 with a run, three walks and a stolen base, Campbell doubled twice and drove in two runs, and Ware finished 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

The Baylor pitching staff struck out 14 Oral Roberts batters, its highest total since the Bears struck out 16 against Oklahoma on May 27, 2007.

Baylor and Oral Roberts continue their four-game series with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. Saturday at Baylor Ballpark.
