Head Coach Steve Smith
On his thoughts while watching the last out of the game:
"I thought he had a shot at it, I mean that was a heck of a play. That was last year's first baseman playing center field. He is a great player. He had an off night at the plate, I think we struck him out twice and that is uncharacteristic of him, but he won the game for them defensively."
On why the team struggled at the beginning of the game:
"We were just not very good on the mound. There is not much you can say about it, but I do think offensively we competed and I thought their guy was very, very good and a very capable guy pitching. They pitched it well tonight. We just have to be better. There is no other way to say it. You can't hit people and put people on base with breaking balls."
On the team being able to manufacture runs to tie the game:
"We got some things going with two outs. I think from an offensive stand point you are not going to have nine guys every night. We were pretty good tonight offensively, they were just better than us on the mound and they made some great plays in the outfield."
Junior Catcher Joey Hainsfurther
On the last at-bat of the game:
"I knew I put a good swing on it and I hit it pretty well. Right off the bat I did think it was going to get down, but that kid made one heck of a play at the end of the game. The game asked him to make a great play and he was able to come through with it. The game asked me to get a good pitch and put a good swing on it and that is what I did. I can't be too down on myself about it. I felt good at the plate, but it just didn't work out for us. Baseball does that sometimes, you win some and you are going to lose some and our guys did a great job. You can't ask anymore from our bullpen, guys at the plate just grinding hits out. Guys were just doing everything the game was asking them to do, so I guess that is a positive."
On how the team was able to fight back in the last few innings:
"I told the guys after the game that if we can play like we did in the last seven innings we are going to win a lot of games. I think people see that and I think the guys understand that. It`s not like anyone was trying to get behind at the beginning of the game, it is just what happened and we have to deal with it and we tried to. We did our best, but it just didn't work out for us."
Junior OF/RHP Brooks Pinckard
On what Baylor needs to do to come back and win the series:
"We just have to flush this one and get ready for tomorrow. We have done that before and we can do it again tomorrow."
On his reaction to Joey Hainsfurther's hit being caught to end the game :
"Honestly I don't know, I was happy he got a good stroke on it, but I saw them closing in and they made a great play. I wish he was a step or two back or a step or two over but hey, credit to him."
