Postgame Quotes: Baylor 14, Texas Tech 13

Box Score

Head Coach Steve Smith

On the way the team played in the ninth inning:
"It was an emotional rollercoaster for our guys. I don't know how many times we were one pitch away from ending the game, but it was a number of times. You just have to regroup and move on. That is the way baseball is. There is no clock, there is no holding the ball and letting the time run out. You have got to get the last out."

On how he felt about his team being able to win the game in the bottom of the ninth:
"I was proud of them. They play hard, we play hard. I am proud for them that they were able to get it done. The only break we got was their left hander coming in and hitting (Max) Muncy. I think the game of baseball was having a real hard time deciding who should win today. Right up until Logan Vick hitting that ball right up against the fence we were still hoping for a walk off homerun and I am not sure there are a lot of those in the bag this year with the new bats. (Josh) Ludy did a great job of doing what they have been good at doing which is getting a hit with two strikes."

On the resiliency of the team:
"Resilience today was just being able to come in and score a run after two outs, and that took some doing. Guys are fighting hard and they are playing hard. So much of our game is defined by what happens on the mound and we just haven't been very good off the mound the last two games."

Senior Catcher Josh Ludy

On the team's emotions seeing their lead go away:
"It for sure swings in (Texas Tech's) favor a little bit, but we did a good job getting Muncy going and we got a lucky hop there with the ball that Joey Hainsfurther hit. We just did a good job at getting the bat on the ball to get that last run."

On the resiliency of the team:
"We did a good job coming back from last night. Obviously what happened today is something that you never want to happen to you in one inning but we did well to get it done and come out with a win."

Senior 1B Max Muncy

On the ninth inning:
"(Texas Tech) had everything going for them. Most of their hits and runs came with two outs and for the most part they came with two strikes as well. They did a good job taking pitches that they didn't need to swing at and when they finally did get a pitch they were putting a pretty good swing on it. It is a good thing we were able to stop them at 13, otherwise it would have been a tough run there in the end."

On being in the field and watching Texas Tech close the lead:
"It was frustrating. Every fielder out there wants the ball hit to them so that they can make the play to end the inning and win the game. When balls are going in holes, over your head or dropping in front of you and you can't do anything about, it is frustrating."
