WACO, Texas -- Shaver Hansen went 5-for-5 with a home run and six RBI, and Beamer Weems tied a school record with two triples as Baylor defeated Texas Southern 22-1 in midweek action Tuesday night at Baylor Ballpark. Baylor (13-10) has won 10 consecutive Tuesday games and 18 consecutive Tuesday home games against non-ranked opponents.


Hansen recorded his first career home run in the second inning, a solo shot down the right-field line with one out that pushed Baylor's lead to 4-0. The Bears led 5-0 in the third when Kyle Smith's two-out RBI single through the right side produced the only run of the night for Texas Southern (4-14).


Baylor scored a run in the bottom of the third, three in the fifth and two in the sixth to build an 11-1 lead. The Bears then erupted for an 11-run eighth inning, in which 16 batters went to the plate. Baylor had 10 hits in the eighth inning with Hansen, Paul Miles and Gregg Glime collecting two hits each.




Starter Wade Mackey (1-0) earned the victory in a predetermined 3.0-inning start; he allowed one run on three hits and no walks with two strikeouts. Andy Pape, Aaron Williams, Jake Weghorst, Willie Kempf, Tim Matthews and Nick Cassavechia each pitched one frame to close out the game. Each of Baylor's six relievers recorded at least one strikeout with Matthews striking out the side in the eighth.


Ben Booker, Weems, Aaron Miller, Miles, Seth Hammock and Glime all had two-hit games. Miles produced three RBI without getting a hit out of the infield; he had a pair of RBI infield singles and a bases-loaded walk.


Baylor returns to action this weekend, hosting Texas Tech for a three-game Big 12 Conference series at Baylor Ballpark. The Bears and the Red Raiders meet Friday at 6:30 p.m. CDT, Saturday at 6:30 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m.

Booker extended his career-long hitting streak to eight games. Weems (five games), Matt Sodolak (four games) and Miller (three games) also extended hitting streaks. ... The 11-run eighth inning was Baylor's highest-scoring inning since a 12-run seventh at Texas Tech in 2004. ... Michael Griffin owns the school record with a six-hit game at Arizona in 2003. ... Hansen's six-RBI game was Baylor's best since Kyle Reynolds' seven-RBI game March 27, 2004, at Oklahoma. ... Weems' two-triple game was Baylor's first since April 6, 2002, when Chris Durbin had a pair of three-baggers against Oklahoma State. ...
