No. 29 Baylor baseball fell 4-1 to West Virginia in the series finale of a weather-shortened series on Sunday afternoon at Appalachian Power Park. Along with WVU's (15-8, 2-0 Big 12) win on Friday, the loss ends BU's (13-13, 4-4 Big 12) four-series winning streak.

The Bears started the game down 1-0 after the first but answered in the third to tie it. Logan Brown led off by reaching on an HBP. An out later, Brett Doe hit an infield single and Adam Toth followed with an RBI single to left.

However, the Mountaineers struck in the sixth for the game-deciding runs. WVU's Bobby Boyd drew a leadoff walk against BU starter Austin Stone, and an out later, Ryan McBroom and Jacob Rice hit back-to-back home runs. The 4-1 deficit was too much to overcome as the Bears never truly threatened the rest of the way.

WVU starter Sean Carley (5-0) earned the win as he gave up the one earned run on five hits and one walk with one strikeout in a complete-game effort. Stone (3-2) took the loss after allowing four earned runs on five hits and two walks with one strikeout in 5.2 innings.

* Baylor dropped its first series since the opening series of the year at No. 19 Arizona State on Feb. 14-16 (2-1). The series loss ends BU's four-series winning streak and is its first series loss in Big 12 play after winning the first two.
* Austin Stone gave up earned runs for just the second time this season in seven starts. The only other time he's given up earned runs in a start was March 2 at San Diego, when he also allowed four runs. It's also just the third time in seven starts that he's allowed multiple runs and he has not allowed more than four runs in any start this season.
* Baylor is 2-3 all-time against West Virginia as the teams met for the first time last season on April 5-7, 2013, in Waco.
* Baylor is 482-535-4 against current members of the Big 12 Conference and 263-198 all-time in Big 12 regular season play.
* Doug Ashby extended his scoreless appearance streak to a career-high 10 and has yet to give up an earned run all season. During the stretch he's thrown 10.1 innings while allowing nine hits and four walks with six strikeouts.
* Adam Toth now has a three-game hitting streak.
* Brett Doe extended his career-long hitting streak to eight games.
* Matt Menard extended his on-base streak to a career-high six games.

"That [sixth inning] was the whole difference. Austin [Stone] really competed well, threw well. They have some physical guys in the middle of the order and they were aggressive from the start. We really didn't hit the ball hard but Austin kept us in the game and gave us a chance." - BU head coach Steve Smith

Baylor returns home to take on Incarnate Word Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. CT and Wednesday at 4 p.m. before going on the road next weekend to face Texas.
