Recap |  Box Score

Coach Steve Smith

On his thoughts on the game:

“I’m sitting over there watching Barnes pitch, and he was really good. It’s a tough loss for him to take, but somebody’s got to take the loss today that really played well. It’s just the way baseball is. I thought we competed well. They ran a starter out there at the beginning that really pitched. He had a no-hitter going into the seventh inning. I think Towey’s home run was the thing that got us in it. We were down three and he tied it up. That was a pretty big play.”

On Hainsfurther’s outing today:

“I thought Joey pitched like I hoped he would pitch after a couple of starts in the midweek. We’d given him some work, and he gave us some real good quality stuff today.”

On continuing to battle after OSU took the lead in the top of the 13th:

“Them scoring took a little bit of pressure off of us. It was a little bit like, OK, we can’t win it with one swing. I really thought Dan’s ball ended it in the ninth inning.”

Third Baseman Cal Towey

On his approach at the plate:

“He was good at mixing up speeds and locating his pitches pretty well. I felt like I hit him pretty good my second at bat, but I just lined out. Then I was just looking for a good pitch to hit. I think it was first and third, and I was just trying to get the ball in the air and get the guy in, but luckily it went out.”

On the nine game winning streak in conference play:

“It’s really great to start like that. Anytime you can win nine games in the Big 12 right away. Now we’re going off to Missouri next, and we have to do the exact same thing on the road.”

Pitcher Joey Hainsfurther

On his outing:

“I felt good. Coach asked me how I was feeling before the game, and I felt like I had bounced back pretty well since my last start on Tuesday, and the week before starting on Wednesday. I didn’t feel really good on Sunday, so that extra day helped a lot. I felt like I could go several innings, and I was able to throw my pitches and have success with them.”

On where this team is right now:

“I think we’ve just been playing good baseball. This game definitely could have gone the other way, but we just battled and were able to get another win. Nine wins isn’t going to win you anything in conference, and it’s certainly not going to host you a regional, so we’ve got a lot of work to do. I think we’re off to a good start.”

Pitcher Josh Turley

On his at bat at the end of the game:

“I was just trying to get loose, because I had been sitting around for thirteen innings. I went up there and Coach told me to look for something I could drive to the outfield. Luckily, that guy fell behind 2-0, which is the perfect hitter’s count, especially with no outs. Me being a contact hitter, I was looking for a fastball in that situation and that’s what I got.”

On what his approach was in that final at bat:

“Well, I’m not a big power guy, I’m just trying to get something up in the zone, where I can hit it. I still got a ground ball, but at least it got through.”
