Head Coach Steve Smith
On today's pitching performance:
"I thought Willie (Kempf) came in tonight and did what Kolt Browder did last night. The key for us in this game was stranding so many of their runners on base in the first half of the game. It took us a while to get going offensively mainly because their guy was throwing pretty well. We were able to get out of some big innings defensively. We made routine plays and our guys pitched effectively with runners on base."
On Willie Kempf coming out of the bullpen:
"He was very good for three innings the other day (at Missouri). I think he and Greg (Glime) changed a bit of what they were doing the other day for no good reason other than just to do it and he lost a little of his edge. I thought he lost a little bit of his edge tonight after the fourth inning. In the fourth inning he was dominant. He just needs to be an aggressive guy. He is a competitor. He's got good stuff, good pitch selection, and a lot of stuff to work with. He just needs to keep his aggressiveness."
On winning both mid-week games:
"Without thinking about A&M too much, it's just nice to win. Both of the teams we played this week are good clubs. I thought particularly with the pitching situation the way it was that we would be doing good to split this mid-week. Our guys have responded a little bit to some things these last couple of games. I couldn't be more pleased with the way they have responded yesterday and today."
Senior RHP Willie Kempf
On his performance:
"I felt pretty good. I had good stuff and I was happy I could come in and help Josh (Turley) out and help the team out in that situation and get out of that jam in the third inning and I had better stuff than what I've had in the last few weeks. It feels a lot better leaving the ballpark today than the last couple of times I've been out there."
On the offensive support:
"Their arms they threw out there weren't too bad at all. I was really proud at how the guys battled. With the wind blowing in like that we have struggled the past few years and we did a good job of keeping the ball out of the air and hitting line drives and getting guys on base. I thought they battled really well at the plate."
Sophomore CF Brooks Pinckard
On battling the strong winds:
"The days that the wind is blowing in are tough. You have to make sure you keep the ball out of the air. You have to hit line drives, ground balls, and get on base. That's what we did tonight and came out with the win."
On adjusting to the starting pitcher:
"It was frustrating but that's baseball. We competed up there and got on base and got that guy out of there and got in the bullpen and it worked."
