Baylor head coach Steve Smith:
On TCU's Paul Gerrish:
"That guy competed well. He threw strikes. Based on his numbers he's not a strikeout guy, but after (Ben) Booker got the double he struck out four the next five guys that went up there. He either got really good or better than he's been, or we weren't very good."
On Tim Matthews' performance:
"He threw strikes and competed. I give their guys credit. That ball that they hit off the wall (fifth-inning triple that scored three runs) out there was way down - it wasn't a bad pitch, he (Chris Ellington) just did a good job with it, and we didn't do a very good job playing it off the wall out there in center field. Tim was fine. For the most part we pitched well enough to win the game, and we played defense well enough to win the game. Beamer's (Weems) error was a pretty tough error. Whoever plays shortstop next year probably won't even get to that ball to even make a throw."
On going through a lot of ups and downs with a young team:
"It's a very, very young team, and they need to grow up."
Baylor senior RHP Tim Matthews:
On his performance:
"I felt really good tonight. I had a strong four innings of throwing the ball well and putting the ball where I wanted, but I had that rough top of the fifth. That's where I got in a little bit of trouble. I hadn't started a game in a while; I just started to labor a little bit, and started not locating as well, but for the most part I thought I had a pretty good outing. It was a good outing to prepare for the weekend."
On if it's difficult going back and forth between starting and relieving:
"You can make it hard if you want to, but I enjoy it just getting out there to get the ball. Every opportunity to pitch is an opportunity to compete, and that's all you can ask for. It doesn't bother me."
Baylor junior 1B Adam Hornung:
On Baylor's offensive struggles:
"We had a really good weekend at the plate, and then we came out here in the first inning and our leadoff guy hits a triple and the next guy hits a single to score him, so it was kind of encouraging, but we pretty much were shut down the rest of the game after that. We need to get back up tomorrow."
On TCU's starting pitcher Seth Garrison:
"Everybody knew what he had and what he was going to throw, so we should've done a lot better off of him than we did. He pretty much pitched the same game he pitched against us last week."
Baylor sophomore CF Raynor Campbell:
On tonight's game:
"We need to come out more focused on midweek games. Last weekend we had 41 hits in three games, and we've been struggling in midweek games most of this year. We just need to come out with a little more focus and fire for tomorrow's game."
On losing two one-run games to TCU in April:
"Timely hitting for them has been the difference in the last two games. On the other hand, we've got to swing the bats and come through with those big hits, and we didn't do that in the last two games against them."
On TCU's fifth-inning triple that scored three runs:
"Off the bat I didn't get a good read on it, and I didn't see it until it was halfway out in the outfield. I was going back on it, and if I had seen it off the bat I probably would've played it off the wall, but instead I was right next to the wall and it bounced hard off the wall. I had to run in and get it, and I didn't pick it up cleanly. That's just an error of me not being out there very much."
