Postgame Quotes: Missouri 4, Baylor 2

April 21, 2011

Recap |  Box Score

Head Coach Steve Smith

On the game tonight:
"It is telling that the only runs we scored were on fly balls. We did not do a good job at the plate. Give them credit. I don't want to take anything away from them, particularly their last guy (Phil McCormick). I thought Muncy did a real nice job in his last at bat to draw the walk and give Josh Ludy a chance to get a hit. The right hand hitters are the ones who have really got to do the damage against him. We put every right hander we had out there and still weren't able to get it done. We did not play the game well. We just didn't execute."

On Josh Turley's pitching:
"I thought Josh did a great job. I thought he hurt himself in his last inning with his fastball. He was trying to pitch with no offense. He had to almost be letter perfect and he was close to it. You can't find any fault in how he threw. The game was lost on the defensive side and with a lot of poor execution on the offensive side."

Sophomore RHP Josh Turley

On the game tonight:
"It is frustrating to know that we had the game under control and it just didn't work out. I felt comfortable for the most part. I was throwing my pitches where I needed to, but it is just frustrating to come out with a loss when we know that this was a game we should have won."

On the team looking forward to postseason play:
"We have talked about it before earlier in the season. We expect to make it to post season, but right now it is not even a concern of ours. We are just trying to get back on track and if we can do that we will be fine. We just aren't worried about post season right now."

Sophomore OF Cal Towey

On the game tonight:
"These next two games are huge. We need to win the next two and take two out of three from them. Especially being at home in a Big12 series. We just need to try to get back on top of winning ball games."

On his homerun:

"I got a good pitch to hit. I was just trying to swing and put the ball in play, and he just left it up over the plate. It felt good just to get the hit, but also to get the run out of it. I wanted to try to get us back on top and get us some momentum going so we could come back and win this ball game."
