Recap |  Box Score

Coach Steve Smith

On his thoughts on the game :

“I thought that we couldn’t have had a better guy on the mound for us than Trent in a game like this, with this kind of crowd, and with this kind of atmosphere. I think Stripling was tremendous and both guys gave the fans and their teams all they had. It’s just a phenomenal college baseball game.”

On the play of the pitching staff:

“All of our guys have been doing a great job of throwing strikes. I just can’t tell you how proud I am of our coaches. I’ve got a young guy that’s taken over this pitching staff, and he’s got them believing. They believe in him. They’re working great together. It’s been pretty fun to watch, but again, both sides played well. It was a heck of a competition tonight.”

On the play of the team tonight:

“The guys want to win. They just want to win, and they don’t want to win any differently on the first pitch and the last pitch. They’re just playing the game. That’s so gratifying to see. To be able to perform at your best when your best is needed and people want to see your best, it’s just exceptional. I’m proud of them.”

RHP Trent Blank

On his outing today:

“It felt like someone else was behind me. I just want to thank God right now, I want to thank these fans, and I want to thank my teammates and my family. It was amazing.”

On effect Josh Ludy has on pitching staff:

“Josh deserves a lot of credit. He’s in the ice bath every day. He’s huge. I think the pitching staff understands that. He’s a big part of this team.”

RHP Max Garner

On the impact of the crowd on the game:

“I love it. It was an incredible atmosphere. It was something to see. It was the best I’ve seen here in four years here. There’s a lot of adrenaline, but once you’re out there, it’s the same sixty feet, and you’ve got to think about it like that.”

On the transition from starter to closer:

“When I was starting it was a different kind of mindset. The first time through the order, you’re trying to work maybe two pitches or something like that. When you’re closing, it’s just get three outs however you can. I threw all my pitches today: fastball, changeup, curveball, and slider. I had the top of the order and those are good guys. I was just doing whatever I could to get them off balance and get them out.”
