Coach Steve Smith

On Dan Evatt’s go ahead two run single in the sixth inning:

“He started so slow this year, which is not that unusual for him. He’s had some times like that, but I was really hoping that he would get going. He’s really swinging the bat good, he’s giving us a power threat in the lineup, and he’s doing a good job with two strikes.”

On the Josh Ludy’s fourteen pitch at bat in the first inning:

“That’s about as good of an at bat as you can have in a game. It was a 14 pitch, two run home run. Give Pineda a whole lot of credit. The guy threw 40 pitches in the first inning and was still out there. I think it took him 40 to get through the next four.”

On taking the lead back after losing it in the sixth inning:

“Honestly, I felt that it woke us up. I don’t think we were necessarily fell asleep, but I think we were fatigued. The bats were slow and maybe it took a jolt.”

On Ryan Smith’s performance:

“I thought it was outstanding. The thing he brings to the table is that he’s a competitor. His ammunition comes and goes a little bit, but his pitches were good. He was down in the zone extremely well with the fastball. He’s a competitor.”

On the growth of Josh Ludy offensively:

“I think that’s just experience. He is exactly what we thought we were getting. He doesn’t have a big arm. It’s adequate. We knew he was going to hit. I think hitting is such a function of at bats and time.”

Outfielder Dan Evatt

On sweeping Texas A&M:

“It’s so sweet. Anytime you sweep those guys it’s an awesome feeling. It’s just fun to beat those guys. It’s fun to win in general, but especially against them.”

On his big hit in the sixth inning:

“I was looking to get a ball up and stay in the middle of the field, and hopefully drive something deep to the outfield. Thankfully I got on top of it and it went up the middle. I just got a good pitch to hit. I was locked in and extremely focused for that at bat, because I knew it was a huge one. I’m glad I got it done.”

Catcher Josh Ludy

On how special this win streak is:

“It’s definitely pretty special, but at the same time, we’re trying to not think about it too much. We’re trying to come out every day and win that day.”

On his mindset in his first inning at bat:

“I was just trying to get a run in there. You hardly ever foul off that many pitches. I don’t know that I ever have, and usually by then something is going to be put in play. Luckily, I just got a pitch I could handle better.”

RHP Ryan Smith

On his outing today:

“You’ve got to give them a lot of credit for keeping us on our toes. They got a lot of hits, but I’ve got to come in and throw strikes. I can’t throw an 0-2 slider to the best hitter in the Big 12.”

On Baylor regaining lead in the sixth inning:

“It’s big for the staff. Getting a lead like that, we don’t want to let it go. So, we just keep throwing strikes and stay really aggressive, because they’re great hitters. We’ve just got to keep the ball away from their barrels.”
