Head Coach Steve Smith
On the game:
"It was a very completive game. It was a strange game. We didn't do a lot of the little things well, which is why we squandered some of our 15 hits. We competed well on the mound. Logan gives up a three-run homerun with two outs and that manages to put up zeros on not a lot of pitches. He was in good shape."
On the performance of Logan Verrett:
"We were only as good as Logan putting zeros up. (Michael Mariot) was really good. He was better than the scouting report and I thought we saw the best stuff that he has. He pitched it really well and competed really well. We had runners on first and second with nobody out early in the game after we scored and he manages to punch out the next three guys. He made some big time pitches. I thought it was a very competitive game."
On the importance of winning the Friday night game:
"We hadn't won on a Friday night in a long time. We all know how important this series is for both teams. It was a pretty good Friday night college baseball game. They guys pitched it well and there were some good swings from both sides."
Sophomore 3B Joey Hainsfurther:
On the offense and Logan Verrett:
"We knew we were hitting the ball better than we had in the last couple of weeks. They weren't falling where we wanted them but we knew we had to just keep going at it. Logan was pitching his butt off for us, so that was awesome. We had that confidence in him. We knew that we just keep at it and hopefully we would come out on top at the end. Putting up those zeros on the mound really gave us a lot of confidence at the plate."
On taking the first game of the series:
"It is awesome. I don't know when we last won a Friday night game. It is awesome starting off on the right foot. I think we have a lot of confidence in Craig (Fritsch) tomorrow. I am glad that we are swinging the bats again, because that was frustrating for a good offensive team to not be getting any runs or hits."
Sophomore CF/RHP Brooks Pinckard
On the game:
"We swung the bats pretty well today, especially late in the game. We just needed to get into the (Nebraska) bullpen. Once we did that, we started scoring runs. The win today builds our confidence for the rest of the weekend."
On staying in during the ninth to finish the game:
"I am a competitor out there. I definitely want to be the guy out there that (Coach Smith) wants to go to. I am glad that he went with me in the ninth inning."
Sophomore RHP Logan Verrett
On being saddled with a no decision
"I am just glad that we pulled it out. I am glad that Brooks (Pinckard) went out there and did what he did in the ninth inning. Frustrated? No, not at all. I am here for the team. I am just glad that I was able to put the team in a position to win."
On working four scoreless innings after the third inning:
"I knew I had to keep the game where it was at. (Michael Mariot) was good, but he wasn't great. We knew that we were going to get on him because we had been tagging the ball all day. We knew it was just a matter of time before they started falling. I just knew that I had to go out there and put our team in a position to win the ballgame. The only way that I could do that was to keep going out there and putting up zeros."
