Recap |  Box Score

Head Coach Steve Smith

On Shawn Tolleson:
"I thought it was a very clutch performance. I think he gave us even more than we would have hoped for. He was in the strike zone, his pitch count stayed down and he didn't strike out a lot of guys, which kept his pitch count down. We made plays behind him and he just pitched a veteran type of game."

On the game:
"Days like today where games are this close, they can go either way. The elements are such a factor on a day like today. Yesterday we saw a ball blow out against us and today Raynor (Campbell) hit one the other way. I think he hit his pretty well, but it is not going to go out if the wind isn't blowing. Every game is going to be different."

On the four-pitch fifth inning:
"We shouldn't have had a four-pitch inning. The guys know it isn't good baseball. It will be something that we continue to preach and talk to them. At some point in time, players have to learn to play the game. I think in that context, there is only so much that a coach can do. there are going to be a lot of things that happen during the course of the game that you just have to understand how to play the game."

Senior 2B Raynor Campbell:

On the game:
"(The win) definitely feels good after that loss on Saturday. The major key today was Shawn (Tolleson) coming out and throwing strikes and the defense making plays behind him. I think that was the big part of the game. We knew that we were going to score runs eventually. Everything just feel into place for us today."

On his game-winning homerun:
"It was a fastball. (Tom Lemke) got me to two strikes and I knew that he was going to come at me with something away. He started throwing me some sliders in the dirt and I fouled off one that was a pretty good pitch. I ended up getting something that I could handle and I just barreled it up and luckily it just scraped right over the wall."

Junior RHP Shawn Tolleson

On his performance:
"I had my stuff working for me and I felt like I had really good command of my fastball. I worked off of the fastball all game, mixing it in both inside and outside. I was just trying to keep them off balanced."

On going deep into the game:
"(The defense) played really well all game. As far as striking people out, I was trying to go later in the game. In order to do that, I had to minimize my pitch count. I had been striking out a lot of guys but my pitch count was really high and I was taking a lot of guys deep into counts. I threw a lot of two-seam fastballs today and a lot of sinkers early in the counts trying to get early outs."
