Head Coach Steve Smith
On Brooks Pinckard`s start:
"I thought he threw good. I was proud of him. I thought he competed and threw a lot of strikes. I pushed him, he was out there for 90 pitches. I just wanted to see what we could get out of him on the mound. I thought for his first time out there he did pretty good. Jon Ringenberg did a good job of keeping his stuff down and was good. Max Garner wasn`t as good as we have seen from him this season. We were able to dodge some bullets and Jake Miller was able to make a nice play to end the ballgame for us. Logan Vick was able to make some big time plays out in the outfield for us."
On the offense tonight:
"We didn`t really have a good night offensively. We didn`t execute. We had chances to just bunt guys over and ended up popping it up. We had runners at third base twice and we couldn`t score. Just not a good game for us offensively. Those are the kinds of things that just bother me. What you try to do as a club is to try and let them play up to what they are, but when a guy can come in and get a third of his strikeouts of the whole season in one inning against you, that is not a good thing."
On Lawton Langford's hit to break open the game:
"That is really the only key hit we got all game. Lawton did a great job of just keeping the bat on the ball going the other way with it. That is what he has to do. He needs to work on staying off of pitches that are inside on him. Obviously he is not a big kid, but he does have enough physical strength to put the ball in play. We would like to see more balls on the ground, but that was the at bat of the game."
Junior RHP Brooks Pinckard
On his pitching today:
"I felt really good today. I was just really thankful for the opportunity and was able to have guys making plays behind me."
On only allowing one walk:
"That was a key to this game. This was just a huge win for our team and we just need to focus and keep rolling into this weekend."
On the importance of this win:
"Hopefully we can get some momentum from this. We played great, it is not like we played bad baseball and got a win so that makes us feel pretty good. We just have to go into this weekend with the same confidence we had tonight and try to get the win in Nebraska."
