Recap |  Final Stats

BU Head Coach Steve Smith

On Max Garner’s pitching:

“I thought the pace Max used in the game was noticeably different. It was very methodical, very much within himself, and I haven’t notice him changes speeds on his breaking ball as much as he did tonight. But he was very senior like, very composed, very methodical.”

On how the team played tonight:

“[Garner] retired about a dozen in a row. He pitched it well. We played well behind him. And the difference in the ballgame was their inability to make some plays on defense. I thought our guys played a rather mundane, uneventful, boring game and that is what I like.”

On Lawton Langford’s day:

“[Langford] was the one guy who looked like he was locked in pretty well. They moved the ball around on him and he hit the ball a couple times to left then squared up a ball to right field.”

BU Starter Max Garner

On forcing Texas into fly-outs:

“We wanted to focus on pitching inside and we thought we could jam up on a lot of them. That’s what a lot of those were, they were fly balls off the handle that may have looked good off the bat but they weren’t going anywhere.”

On his last outing at Baylor Ballpark:

“It’s my last time pitching here and it makes it that much sweeter. The offense did a great job scratching some runs across. They made a lot of errors but we still had to take advantage of them and we did.”

BU Second Baseman Lawton Langford

On his day at the plate:

“It felt good, I was seeing the ball well tonight. The first couple at-bats I fell behind in the count and wasn’t really trying to do too much. I just wanted to get a pitch to hit and I got one in the zone both times and put the barrel on it.”

On winning the first game of the series:

“It’s a very big win. It’s always good to beat Texas and especially to get that first win no matter who you’re playing. Anything can happen the rest of the weekend and to get that first win gives us some momentum going into tomorrow and Sunday.”
