BU Head Coach Steve Smith
On the game:
"Cal [Towey] came up with the first two-out RBI, but what happened in the bottom of the eighth was pretty huge. Jake [Miller] getting on base and [Steve] Dalporto and Duncan [Wendel] coming up with two-out hits, that changed the entire top of the ninth. This game on our side was pretty much like the others and for them it was a lot like yesterday."
On Ryan Smith's pitching:
"He did the same thing he did today as he did last Sunday, which was he got better and stronger as he went along. He didn't strike a lot of guys out, just changed speeds a lot and I think he's going to continue to learn a bit how to do what he does. He's got command of three pitches so it's about getting out there and learning."
On what these seniors mean to Baylor baseball:
"They've given four, and in some cases five, great years of their lives. It's hard to have seniors in college baseball because of the draft. Sometimes the ones who you have you don't want because of the draft. But this group of guys can all play, and they're great people. They're going to be great ambassadors for Baylor but also good men. These guys will become great people. College baseball is full of great people. But the difference between our team and Texas is as simple as seniors. They have two, we have nine. They've had one senior appear in a game this year. That's just a different team."
BU Starter Ryan Smith
On if he was more comfortable in his second Big 12 start:
"It was about the same, it's always fun to pitch at home and for the seniors. So I was trying to attack the zone and have fun."
On attacking the zone today:
"They're pretty free swingers and we have a great defense so we're just trying to pitch to that and pitch to contact."
On how big it is to sweep Texas:
"It's always a big deal, sweeping them and really just keeping us in the race. We're in a race right now, we're trying to stay on top and keep winning ball games."
BU Short Stop Jake Miller
On sweeping Texas at home:
"It's always good to win and always good to win at home. We have to take advantage of home advantage; it's huge. Now that we have a good winning streak going into our road series, hopefully we can carry some of that and it can snowball and we keep winning."
On his eighth-inning double:
"Coach Smith put me in the four hole but I still tried to stick to my approach and try to get a good pitch to hit and drive it. They've got some good arms over there making good pitches and we're basically hitting their mistakes. [Corey] Knebel on the mound, I think he's one of the best closers in the country. To get a knock off of him and get to second base, I think that uplifted the team a bit. It's contagious so I'm glad we could do that."
On the team's mentality on trying to get the Big 12 championship:
"We just have to keep plugging away. This weekend summed up our team: we're not going to give any at-bats away and we're going to keep grinding. We're not going to look at the stat sheet. We know that if we win our chances of advancing to the postseason are greater. We know if we win in the Big 12 there's a good chance we can get that title back. That's what we're working for. We seniors are sticking together and trying to help these young guys through this."
