SAN MARCOS, Texas - Five Baylor pitchers combined on a five-hit shutout to lead the Bears to a 3-0 win over Texas State on Wednesday night at Bobcat Ballpark. It was Baylor's first game after a 10-day break for final exams.

Baylor (39-8) picked up its 28th win in the last 29 games by limiting Texas State (27-19) to five singles and allowing only three baserunners to reach second base. Tyler Bremer (5-0) picked up the win with 3.0 shutout innings in a predetermined short start, and four Baylor relievers combined on 6.0 innings of relief with only four hits and no walks allowed.

"Both sides pitched it well, and there were some really nice defensive plays," head coach Steve Smith said. "We got the timely hits early, and they made one error to move us around, but it was a good college baseball game."

Dillon Newman worked 3.2 scoreless innings, Crayton Bare pitched 1.0 innings, Kolt Browder retired the only batter he faced, and Max Garner picked up his 10th save in as many appearances by working a scoreless ninth.

The Bears wasted no time getting on the board in the first game since April 28. Nathan Orf was hit by a pitch leading off the game, stole second base and scored on Max Muncy's RBI single. Orf was again hit by a pitch in the third inning, and he scored the second run of the game on Muncy's two-out RBI double.

Orf has now been hit by a pitch 23 times this season, tying him with Matt Williams (2000) for the Baylor single-season record, but his career-long hitting streak ended at 12 games after finishing 0-for-2 in the game.

Baylor's only other run scored in the fifth when Adam Toth and Lawton Langford singled, and Toth came around to score with two outs when Taylor Black's pickoff attempt at first base when all the way down the right-field line.

Black (2-2) took the loss after allowing three runs in 5.0 innings. Five Bobcat relievers held the Bears scoreless over the last 4.0 innings, but the Baylor bullpen matched them with zeros.

Texas State's best opportunity came in the ninth when a pair of one-out singles brought the potential tying run to the plate, but Garner got a strikeout and a flyout to end the game.

Muncy finished 2-for-4 with two RBI, and Langford, Toth and Michael Howard had the Bears' only other hits. Morgan Mickan went 3-for-4 to account for the majority of Texas State's five hits. The teams combined to issue only two walks and strike out 19 batters.

Baylor returns to action when it travels to Oklahoma for a three-game series against the Sooners this weekend. Friday's game is scheduled for 6 p.m., Saturday's game is at 2 p.m. and Sunday's finale is slated for 1 p.m.
