Head Coach Steve Smith
On the win:
"I thought we dodged some bullets. I thought Willie (Kempf) was pretty good and solid. He pitched out of a couple of (scoring) opportunities. I thought they really had an opportunity when (Kolt) Browder came in. The double play in the seventh was pretty big. They were a hit away from making this a one-run game."
On the play of Cal Towey:
"I was happy for him. He sat for a long time after starting the year in the lineup. He has just persevered through it. Good things are happening for him right now. It is baseball and it is cyclical. He is getting to enjoy it right now like everybody else."
On Willie Kempf:
"Willie threw an inning on Sunday. He is the most durable guy that I've got, which is why I started him in this game. He is the one guy that I could leave out there for (five innings) and he would be fine."
On the importance of the win going into the weekend series against Oklahoma State:
"We need wins. Unless we win our tournament, we are going to have to get into the NCAA Tournament as an at-large team. Every win we get will affect that."
Senior RHP Willie Kempf:
On the win:
"We need to win everything right now. Any win for us is huge. We feel like we are playing our best baseball of the year right now. We want to keep this momentum rolling like we did today and take it into this weekend."
On his performance:
"It was hot out there for the first couple of innings. It was one of the warmer days that I've pitched this year and I was a little fatigued during the first few innings. I finally settled in and made some pitches when I needed to and they made some plays behind me."
On the importance of sweeping the Oklahoma State series:
"We were thinking (sweep) last weekend but we obviously fell short. We got a series win on the road last weekend and this weekend is a series that we have to win because it is at home against a team that is in the bottom of our conference right now. They are probably saying the same thing about us. They are going to have a lot of fight when they come in here. If we can win this series or sweep it, it puts us right in the middle of the conference standings and gives us an opportunity to get a regional birth."
Freshman RF Cal Towey
On the importance of the win:
"It feels good to get a win here because we are trying to push to get into postseason play. A win doesn't hurt at all."
On his improvements at the plate:
"At the beginning of the year I felt like I was just trying too hard to get hits. I was focusing too much on the outcome rather than focusing on hitting the ball and just doing what I can do. Tonight I didn't really hit the ball hard, but they just found space. It feels good."
