"We needed to play almost perfect today defensively to have a chance. Eddie Degerman was outstanding, particularly early in the game. (He has) a very unorthodox delivery, and it's just very tough. I thought our guys, after we got through the first time through the order, we made some adjustments. We picked the ball up a little bit better.

"But the first inning was really about a game of inches. We had a couple of balls by our first baseman that, if we're able to make those plays, then we stay out of that big inning. Then they expanded the lead after Randall (Linebaugh) came out on a pretty tough error on Beamer (Weems), a tough play. We're used to him making so many plays that nothing becomes a hit when its hit to him.

"Really it was about them. They've got a great club. Offensively, I think they're extremely good and Degerman was outstanding on the mound.

"I thought Randall was courageous for us. He hung in there and kept us in the game and gave us a chance."
