WACO, Texas – Baylor baseball will host the fourth-annual Meet the Team dinner on Wednesday, Feb. 15 in the Galloway Suite at Floyd Casey Stadium. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and the festivities are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
Former Baylor All-Americans Kip Wells and Jon Topolski will be the guests of honor. A limited number of tickets are available for $25 and can be purchased online at http://www.baylor.edu/network/events or by calling 866-281-9444.
Wells was a first-round draft pick of the Chicago White Sox in 1998 after a three-year career at Baylor, and he went on to pitch 11 seasons in the Major Leagues. Wells spent time with the White Sox, Pittsburgh Pirates, Texas Rangers, St. Louis Cardinals, Colorado Rockies, Kansas City Royals, Washington Nationals and Cincinnati Reds. His 11-year career in the Majors is the second-longest of any Baylor alum, trailing only Hall of Famer Ted Lyons’ 21 seasons.
Topolski, who joined Wells among 15 players to earn All-America honors at Baylor, was a four-year letterwinner from 1996-99. Topolski was a fourth-round draft pick of the Houston Astros in 1999 and went on to play six seasons in the minor leagues, reaching as high as Triple-A in the Astros’ organization. He is Baylor’s all-time leader in home runs (50), hits (333), runs (285), triples (25), multiple-hit games (103), total bases (574) and walks (185).
Baylor’s 2012 team returns 20 lettermen from a squad that finished 31-28 and lost in the championship round at the NCAA Houston Regional. Baylor lost only five lettermen, and for the second straight season, the Bears return eight position starters.
The Bears open the 2012 season by hosting Oral Roberts Feb. 17-19 at Baylor Ballpark. For season ticket information, contact the Baylor Athletic Ticket Office at 254-710-1000.
