WACO, Texas– Baylor baseball starts the 2014 season with a three-game series at No. 19 Arizona State this weekend in Tempe, Ariz., at Packard Stadium. Games are scheduled for Friday at 3:30 p.m. CT, Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

Arizona State leads the series 6-4, but the Bears have won each of the last three games. The streak for Baylor includes two wins at the 2006 Houston Regional to end ASU’s season, which is the last time the two teams met. Under head coach Steve Smith, BU is 4-4 against the Sun Devils. ASU leads the series 4-1 in Tempe.

BAYLOR FACES CHALLENGING 54-GAME SCHEDULE
Baylor’s 54-game schedule features 30 home games and nine 2013 NCAA Tournament participants. BU’s 25 opponents combined to go 849-609-1 (.582) last season and only four of the 25 teams finished with a record below .500. The NCAA participants in order of date on the BU schedule are Arizona State, Austin Peay, San Diego, Cal State Fullerton (Super Regional), Oklahoma State, Sam Houston State, Kansas State (Super Regional), Oklahoma (Super Regional) and UTSA.

RAISING ARIZONA: FATHER AND SONS AFFAIR
Both coaches in this series have two sons on each of their respective teams. Baylor head coach Steve Smith has his sons freshman first baseman Case and junior right-handed pitcher Ryan, while Arizona State head coach Tim Esmay has his sons freshman infielder Cooper and junior infielder Tucker.

2006 HOUSTON REGIONAL REMATCH
The last time Baylor and Arizona State faced each other was in the 2006 NCAA Houston Regional. BU got the best of ASU twice with a 3-2 win on June 3, 2006, and a 7-2 win on June 4, 2006, to end the Sun Devils’ postseason run.
