Josh Turley leads all Big 12 starting pitchers with a 2.13 ERA in conference play.

April 25, 2012

LUBBOCK, Texas - Baylor pitchers Trent Blank and Josh Turley are among 51 pitchers named to the initial Pitcher of the Year Watch List, which was announced by the College Baseball Hall of Fame.

Blank and Turley are among seven Big 12 pitchers on the list, and Baylor is one of nine schools with multiple players named to the list. The Bears are 20-0 this season in games started by either Turley or Blank.

A senior from Columbia, Ill., Blank leads the nation with a perfect 9-0 record, and his nine wins are two more than any other pitcher in the Big 12. Blank's 2.18 ERA ranks fifth in the Big 12, and his .202 opponents' batting average is fourth in the league.

Turley, a junior from Texarkana, Texas, has been the Bears' starting pitcher in the first game of every weekend series or tournament this season, and he's led the Bears to wins in all 10 of those starts. He's third in the Big 12 with a 6-0 record and also ranks third with a 1.94 ERA.

Turley earned his sixth win by allowing one earned run in 7.0 innings on Friday in a win at then-No. 2 Texas A&M, and Blank followed that outing by pitching 8.0 shutout innings in a 1-0 victory over the Aggies on Saturday.

Blank has held opponents to one or fewer earned runs in eight of his 12 outings on the year, and he's worked at least 6.0 innings in seven of eight starts since moving into the weekend rotation. He currently ranks fourth in program history with an .810 career winning percentage (17-4), and with one more win, he will record the 15th double-digit wins season in program history.

Turley has allowed one or fewer earned runs in seven of 10 starts this season and worked at least 5.2 innings in eight straight and 18 of his last 20 starts on the mound. He's been at his best in Big 12 play, where he leads the league with a 5-0 record and leads all starting pitchers with a 2.13 ERA. Turley's 3.12 career ERA in Big 12 play ranks third in program history.

The Baylor duo is joined on the list by Big 12 counterparts Andrew Heaney (Oklahoma State), Cory Knebel (Texas), Rafael Pineda (Texas A&M), Ross Stripling (Texas A&M) and Duke von Schamann (Texas Tech).

The winner of the Pitcher of the Year Award will be announced on June 30 in Lubbock, Texas, as part of the annual College Baseball Night of Champions. The event features the presentation of numerous awards and the induction ceremony for this year's Hall of Fame class.
