Bears Tumble in Baseball America

DURHAM, N.C. — On the heels of its first six-game losing streak in five years, Baylor dropped eight spots to No. 17 in this week’s Baseball America Top 25. The Bears (25-17, 10-10 in Big 12 play) are among five Big 12 Conference teams in this week’s ranking.

The top four spots remained unchanged with UC Irvine ranked No. 1 for the second consecutive week. The Anteaters are followed by Rice, Arizona State, North Carolina, LSU, Ole Miss, Texas, Oklahoma and Georgia Tech. Kansas State, which was 2-0-1 at Texas over the weekend, climbed seven spots to No. 16. Texas A&M, which took two of three at home against Oklahoma State, climbed four spots to No. 20.

Elsewhere, the Bears dropped 12 spots to No. 24 in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches’ Poll.

Baylor returns to action Tuesday, hosting UTSA for a doubleheader at Baylor Ballpark. First pitch between the Bears and Roadrunners is scheduled for 4 p.m. CDT. Baylor and UTSA will play a nine-inning first game and a seven-inning second game, which will start 45 minutes following the completion of the first game.
