IRVING, Texas - Baylor's Lawton Langford was named Big 12 Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday. The junior second baseman earned the honor for the first time in his career and gave the Bears their fifth such award this season.

Langford was the catalyst for the offense in a 4-0 week as he hit .438 (7-for-16) with six RBI, three runs, three walks, two steals and a double. Compiling a .526 on-base percentage and .500 slugging percentage, Baylor's leadoff hitter reached base in all four games to extend his career-high on-base streak to 35 games. His streak is the longest by any BU player this season.

At Dallas Baptist last Tuesday, Langford had two RBI, two walks, one double, run and steal. In the series opener against Texas on Friday, he went 3-for-5 with three RBI. In Game 2 versus Texas on Saturday, he had a hit, steal and game-winning RBI walk in a 1-0 win. In Sunday's finale against Texas, he was 2-for-4 with two runs scored.

For the season, Langford has a career-high .423 on-base percentage and is hitting .299 with 43 hits in 42 games. He has 30 runs scored, 26 walks (fourth in Big 12) and 15 RBI. His run and walk totals lead the team.

In Big 12 play, Langford has been even better as he leads the conference in runs scored (15), ranks fourth in walks (10), fifth in steals (4) and sixth in on-base percentage (.451). He is hitting .333 in 17 league games.

Baylor's other Big 12 weekly honorees this season are Cal Towey (April 15, March 4), Grayson Porter (April 1) and Max Garner (March 4).

Langford and the Bears begin a four-game road trip on Tuesday at 6:35 p.m. CT against UT Arlington before heading to Kansas for a three-game weekend series.
