WACO, Texas -- Baylor baseball returns to action Wednesday, May 9, hosting Texas Southern for a midweek game at Baylor Ballpark. First pitch between the Bears and the Tigers is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CDT. This is the second and final scheduled meeting between the teams this season; Baylor defeated Texas Southern 22-1 at Baylor Ballpark in mid-March.
Baylor (26-21) has won five of its last seven after a 3-0 victory at 23rd-ranked TCU last Tuesday. The Bears are 19-10 at home this season, including a 14-3 mark in non-Big 12 Conference home games. Baylor is 10-1 in midweek contests this season, going 8-1 in midweek home games.
Texas Southern (13-27) is 4-6 in its last 10 games after dropping two of three at Grambling State over the weekend. The Tigers lost the first two games 6-5 and 19-6, respectively, before rebounding for a 13-12 victory in Sunday's series finale. Texas Southern is 8-16 in road games this season, including a 5-16 mark on opponents' home fields.
The Bears and the Tigers have played three common opponents this season: Prairie View A&M, Texas A&M and Texas State. Baylor is 5-2 against that trio, while Texas Southern is 1-9 with one victory against Prairie View A&M.
Baylor holds a 6-0 advantage in the all-time series, which dates back to a 10-3 Baylor victory April 28, 2004, in Waco. In this season's first meeting, the Bears scored in six of eight innings en route to a 22-1 victory. Baylor scored 11 runs in the eighth inning, coming two batters shy of batting around twice in the inning. Shaver Hansen was 5-for-5 with a home run and six RBI as seven Bears recorded multiple-hit games.
After Wednesday's game against Texas Southern, Baylor returns to Big 12 action this weekend, traveling to Lincoln, Neb., for a three-game series at Nebraska. The Bears and the Huskers meet Friday at 6:35 p.m., Saturday at 2:05 p.m. and Sunday at 1:05 p.m. All three games will be played at Haymarket Park.
