WACO, Texas - Baylor baseball junior centerfielder Logan Brown was named to the 2014 Rawlings/ABCA Division I Gold Glove Team, the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) announced Wednesday. Brown is the first player in program history to garner the honor.
The only other person in program history that has a similar honor is catcher Kelly Shoppach (1999-2001), who earned the 2001 Easton Defensive Player of the Year award. Brown was one of three outfielders on the list and one of nine honorees as each position other than the outfield had one representative. Brown joined Texas' second baseman Brooks Marlow as the lone recipients from the Big 12.
During the season, Brown made several outstanding diving catches, running catches and throws while making them all look relatively routine with his smooth stride and graceful plays. In a career-high 175 fielding chances, the Rowlett, Texas, native had just one error with a career-high 170 putouts for a career-high .994 fielding percentage with a career-high-tying four assists and two double plays. Brown's lone error came on March 7th in the series opener of an eventual series win over No. 3 Cal State Fullerton. Since then, he's gone 44 straight games without an error.
For his career, Brown owns a .991 fielding percentage as he has 307 putouts, 11 assists and three errors (one each season) in 321 chances. He's also helped turn four double plays.
