WACO, Texas - Baylor's annual Burgers on the Berm intrasquad scrimmage resulted in a Gold Team 5-3 win over the Green Team on Saturday afternoon at Baylor Ballpark as the BU faithful got their first glimpse of the 2014 Bears.

The Gold Team was led by strong bookend performances from pitchers Brad Kuntz and Josh Michalec. Kuntz started the game and fired three perfect innings with five strikeouts. Michalec then finished the game, picking up three strikeouts in his only frame in the ninth inning.

Duncan Wendel was one of several Gold Team hitters to have a good day at the plate as he went 2-for-4 with three RBI and a home run. Logan Brown was 3-for-4 with an RBI, run and triple. West Tunnell was perfect, reaching on all four plate appearances with three singles and a walk. Lawton Langford was also 2-for-4 with an RBI and run, and Mitch Price added another 2-for-4 performance.

For the Green Team, rookies Nick Lewis and Kyle Ott pitched each of the last two innings, respectively, without allowing a run. Lewis was perfect, while Ott allowed a hit and walk.

At the plate for the Green Team, rookies Kameron Esthay, Ben Carl and Matt Menard drove in the runs. Esthay went 1-for-2 with an RBI double, scored twice and reached on an HBP. Carl went 2-for-3 with an RBI on a pair of singles. Menard was 1-for-2 with an RBI single and walk.

"Overall it was a well-played, competitive game," said BU Head Coach Steve Smith. "Brad Kuntz was outstanding on the mound for the Gold Team and the Green Team turned several double plays, which kept it close. We had a great crowd, which always adds an important dimension to any intrasquad scrimmage. It allows us to really learn some things about our guys."

A beautiful afternoon and turnout at the park, the event was hosted by the Heart of the Order with all proceeds going to support the Baylor Baseball Diamond Girls. Baylor's six-week fall practice schedule comes to a close next week as the team readies for the 2014 campaign that starts in February. The Bears return 23 players from last year's squad and add 14 newcomers.
