Green Scores Early, Holds on for 6-4 Win Over Gold

WACO, Texas - The Green team scored in each of the first three innings and held on for a 6-4 in Baylor baseball's annual Green & Gold Game Friday night at Baylor Ballpark.

The Green team scored three runs in the first and two in the second to jump out to an early 5-0 lead before the Gold team began to chip away. The Gold team cut the Green lead to 5-2 with two runs in the bottom of the second, but Green answered right back to stretch lead to 6-2 in the third. Gold would tack on a run in the 4th and the 7th, but couldn't draw any closer.

Max Garner earned the win for the Green team with three innings pitched, allowing just one run on two hits. Ryan Smith struck out two in the ninth to get save.

Along with Smith, Doug Ashby (Green), Kolt Browder (Gold), Nick Wright (Gold), Dillon Newman (Gold) registered scoreless outings. Newman came on for Gold starter Crayton Bare to pitch 3.1 innings, allowing just two hits and striking out four.

Brett Doe led the way offensively for the Green team, tallying three three hits in the win. Doe, a junior college transfer from Navarro College, scored a run and tallied an RBI in the leadoff spot for the Green squad.

Grayson Porter and Joe Sabatini both registered two hits apiece for the Green squad. Sabatini had two doubles and two runs scored.

Michael Howard led the Gold team with two hits, while Cal Towey singled, had two runs scored and stole two bases for the Gold team.

Baylor wraps up fall ball Sunday, Nov. 18. The Bears open the 2013 season Feb. 15-17, with a three-game road series vs. UC Irvine in Irvine, Calif.
