Green Completes Five-Game Sic ‘Em World Series Sweep
Nov. 19, 2017

WACO, Texas – Team Green rallied for a third straight comeback win, 3-1, over Team Gold to finish off a clean, five-game sweep in the Sic ‘Em World Series annual five-game instrasquad scrimmage on Sunday afternoon at Baylor Ballpark.

Both teams’ starters were dealing as Green’s Kyle Hill and Gold’s Hayden Kettler tossed four shutout innings to begin the game. Gold’s Shea Langeliers broke up the shutout with a solo home run in the top of the fifth inning.

However, Green countered in the bottom of the fifth. Andy Thomas led off with an infield single and moved to third base on a sacrifice bunt by Tucker Johnson, who was named series MVP, that forced a throwing error, allowing Johnson to reach second. After a Ryan Bertelsman walk loaded the bases, Davion Downey hit into a double play to tie the game. Then Cole Weaver hit an infield single down the third base line to score the go-ahead run.

In the sixth, Green added to its lead on a two-base error and Davis Wendzel RBI single. From there, relievers Collin Garrett and Luke Boyd finished the game, respectively.

The Bears are now done with fall practice and will pick up again in the spring semester before starting the 2018 season on Feb. 16-18 vs. Purdue at Baylor Ballpark.
