WACO, Texas -- Former Baylor right-handed pitcher Mark McCormick was listed as the St. Louis Cardinals' fifth-best minor league prospect in the latest issue of Baseball America. The Cardinals drafted McCormick with the 43rd overall pick as a supplemental first-round selection in last June's Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.
McCormick posted a 1-2 record in 11 total starts between the Cardinals' short season squad (New Jersey) and their Low A squad (Quad Cities). He recorded 55 strikeouts in 49.0 innings of work and held opposing batters to a .232 batting average.
As a junior for Baylor in 2005, McCormick posted an 8-4 record with 2.96 ERA. Baylor was 14-6 in his school-record 20 starts, and he tallied 115 strikeouts in 112.2 innings with a .184 opponents' batting average.
