Brian O'Neill is in his fourth season as an assistant coach at Baylor.
O'Neill is responsible for handling Baylor's advanced scouting, opponents' video tape reports, on-court practice coaching, overseeing individual player workouts and also providing pre-game coaching insight for the Fastbreak Club.
In 2002, O'Neill was given recruiting duties for Baylor and his first recruit, Corey Herring, signed with the Bears.
O'Neill spent the summer of 2002 touring Scandinavia as assistant coach of the Big 12 All-Star team that finished 6-0 in games played in Sweden, Norway and Denmark. O'Neill coached under Baylor head coach Dave Bliss and help guide the Big 12's first undefeated All-Star tour.
O'Neill came to Baylor from the University of New Mexico, where he spent one season as the director of basketball operations under Bliss.
At New Mexico, O'Neill was in charge of the Lobos' basketball operations. His wide-encompassing duties included the coordination of videotaping and film exchange, organization of on-campus visits for prospective student-athletes and assistance with academic advisement.
Prior to his tenure at New Mexico, O'Neill spent six seasons as the head boys basketball coach at Cibola High School in Albuquerque, where he coached current Baylor forward R.T. Guinn.
While leading Cibola to the New Mexico state tournament five times, O'Neill compiled a record of 94-63. During the three-year span from 1995 to 1998 Cibola averaged 20 wins per season and advanced to the state semi-finals each of the last two seasons. In 1993, O'Neill was named the New Mexico Coach of the Year.
From 1996-98 O'Neill served as the vice president and assistant director for New Mexico's A.A.U. basketball program.
O'Neill was born March 6, 1965, in Brooklyn, N.Y. As a prep athlete, he was an all-state performer at Albuquerque's Cibola High School, where he graduated in 1983. O'Neill played basketball at Navajo Community College in Tsaile, Ariz. He received his bachelor's degree from Eastern New Mexico in 1988.
O'Neill and his wife, Dawn, have a 5-year-old daughter, Alexis.
