NO. 23 BAYLOR (13-2, 1-0) 73, TEXAS TECH (10-6, 0-1) 61
JAN. 10, 2009 - ATTENDANCE: 8,032

Head Coach Scott Drew

On the game:
"I thought Texas Tech did a really good job, especially at the beginning of the game jumping out to an early lead. They were ready to play from the tip and I felt that our upperclassman did a good job rallying us and making sure that we got back into the game plan. In the first half they did a great job keeping us off-balance, and in the second half we were able to get on the break a little bit more. Our offense was a bit more efficient as the second half wore on."

On Kevin Rogers:
"Kevin's double-double was great. We had too many rebounds that got in our hands and we couldn't come down with them. We have to get better at that. We can't be outrebounded by 10 consistently and win. The good thing is that we forced 23 turnovers and held them to 42 percent, so that kind of offset that. The last 10 minutes especially, I thought Kevin played really well."

On being able to overcome a slow start:
"Experience definitely helps. You don't get rattled as easy where you are able to overcome adversity a little easier when you have already been through adversity. That is something that will definitely help us. When we go into games we won't sneak up on people. I think people will be excited to play us and I think we are going to get their best game, so we have to be ready."

Senior Guard Curtis Jerrells
On finding the hot shooter:

"That is the one thing that is good about this team. We know that when one person gets hot we do a good job of trying to get him the ball. For a stretch, (LaceDarius Dunn) just got hot, so we just gave him the ball."

Senior Forward Kevin Rogers
On the game:

"We really wanted to defend our home court. If you can win at home, that is always a bonus. We knew that we had to pick it up in the second half. We kind of figured out how they were playing and they kind of figured out how we were playing, so we had to do something to separate ourselves. I think we locked in more mentally and we were able to come out and get a victory."

Sophomore Guard LaceDarius Dunn
On the game:

"We came out sluggish and Texas Tech just got ahead. We knew that we had to pick it up on the defensive end. At halftime, the coaches preached it to us and we knew that we had to come out and get stops after stops and just take the lead. We just took it from there."

Head Coach Pat Knight

On the game:
"I told our kids after the game we are 1-0 on effort, but 0-1 with the loss. Baylor is just too good to have lapses like that. I thought we competed really well for 35 minutes and then we had just a couple bad mistakes in the last five minutes. They have two very good senior guards that will come down and make plays. I was proud of their (Tech's Players) effort. If we can sustain that effort and keep on going I will be pleased...I've got to give them (Baylor) credit, they have some darn good players."

On  Baylor's LaceDarius Dunn:
"He is just good, he is very good. We were deciding before the game if we should stick on somebody or not, but the problem with them is they have three or four lethal guys. If you stay on him (Dunn), one of those other guys are going to get hot. That is why they are good; you take away something from them , you have to give up something else. It is not like you can take away their driving or their shooting because they all can do that."

On the tempo of the game:
"We do like to push it up more, but I have to be honest with myself and it is part of coaching, they are better than us at it (up tempo style), so we didn't need to get in a running game."

On Baylor's defense:

"I thought they just played good solid man to man defense, but they didn't do anything different then what we expected. We have to execute better. "
