20/24 BAYLOR (17-4, 4-3) 84, IOWA STATE (13-9, 2-5) 63
FEB. 3, 2010

Head Coach Scott Drew
On the play in the second half…
"I am very pleased with the second half. I thought we defended a lot better than we did in the first half. I thought we rebounded a lot better than we did in the first half. We played with a lot more energy and that led to us being able to open up the lead. I think it was important when we got (the lead) into double-digits that we were able to make (the lead) stay there versus relinquishing it and making the game go down to the wire.”

On the defensive effort in the second half…
"The defense gives us an easy offense and energizes us. When we are playing sound defense, we are a very good team. In the first half, credit Iowa State, they made shots. I think in the second half we did a better job of providing more energy out there.”

On the play of Tweety Carter…
“I think Tweety did a good job of running the table, setting up things and making sure that we did a good job (with the assists-to-turnover ratio.) Sixteen assists-to-eight turnovers—I think we would take that the rest of the year. I really liked the offensive rebounding and the rebounding margin, 38-28. The second half is how we need to rebound the whole game and not just the second half.”

On the win…
“After any Big 12 win you breathe a sigh of relief. You have to cherish all of them because they don’t come easy and they are all special. At the same time, midweek games are tough because you are right away focused and looking to the next game. Obviously Texas A&M is a team that you don’t have to say much in order to get Baylor excited for, just like any of the in-state rivalries. We will be ready for them on Saturday and we will start getting ready for them tomorrow.”

Senior Guard Tweety Carter
On the game…

"In the first half (Iowa State) did a great job of rebounding. In the second half we just wanted to come out and attack them. For (Ekpe Udoh) and (LaceDarius Dunn) to play well tonight, I think that was a boost for their confidence and for us shooting the ball and putting the ball in the hole. I think those two guys were key tonight.”

On the momentum from the Texas win…
"That win was big for us but we know that we can play against anybody. Everyone knows that it is tough to go into Austin and get a win at Texas. We know that we can play with anybody and it was just a matter of time before we showed it. I think coming off of that win gave us a lot of confidence back and allowed us to come out tonight and play well.”

Junior Guard LaceDarius Dunn
On coming out of a shooting slump…

"We just came in and did what we had to do. I have had a couple of bad luck nights, but I try not to look back at those and just come out and play every night. We came out and did a great job. In the first half we struggled a little bit, but the second half was much better. The most important part was the win.”

Head Coach Greg McDermott
Opening Statement…
"I felt like we played the first half exactly the way we wanted to play. I thought we were able to control tempo, we limited our turnovers, we were able to win the battle on the backboards. (LaceDarius) Dunn got a few looks that we didn’t want him to get but we did a pretty good job on Tweety (Carter). I felt that if we could maintain those things in the second half, it would be a game that would be decided in the last five minutes. We turned it over five times in the first 11 or 12 possessions in the second half, settled for some jump shots and really got manhandled on the backboards in the second half. Once we are down 13 or 14 with six minutes left in the second half and we are forced into a situation where we have to pick up and pressure full court, that plays right into Baylor’s hands and really goes against what our strengths are. ”

On Ekpe Udoh…
"Udoh is a really good player. His shot blocking, his rebounding, his ability to use both hands around the basket and yet still have that in between game where he can knock down that 15 or 17-footer gives them a really good weapon along the front line. Dunn and Carter did what they always do.”

On Baylor’s backcourt compared to other teams in the Big 12…
“There are a lot of good ones in our league. Texas is pretty good. The one we are going to see Saturday night (Kansas State) with Pullin and Clemente is pretty good. (Sherron) Collins is pretty good last time I checked. There are great guards throughout the league and these two are right up there with them.“

On Ekpe and Tweety being the difference in the game…
“I think so. Obviously I have seen him (Dunn) a bunch on tape and have not seen him in person. I think he makes a difference and I also think that Tweety makes a difference. He is such a different player without Curtis (Jerrells) out there because he has the ball in his hands more. He just makes great decisions for his teammates. When he’s not scoring himself, he does a good job of getting everyone involved and obviously they trust each other and move the ball well. That zone, there are times when you find holes in it, but over the course of 40 minutes with the length on that back line, it makes it tough to get much easier.”
