 Head Coach Scott Drew

Opening Statement:
“I think at the start of the game, if you would have said Cory (Jefferson) is going to have five-and-five, Isaiah’s going to have five-and-one and you’re going to be able to win 80-60, I think people would say, ‘Really?’ Rico Gathers, by far, played his best game; 7-of-8 from the field, 8-of-10 from the free throw line. (He was) outstanding finishing plays and making the right plays. And then (Taurean) Prince really came in and gave us great life and played his best basketball season as well. So those guys did a great job. And I think the guards really set the table; 23 assists, only 9 turnovers and 27 made field goals. That’s pretty impressive stuff.”

On Brady Heslip’s 3-pointers:
“I think the guards did a great job in finding him, some of the bigs did a great job in finding him as well. But Brady’s been shooting on offense, looking for a shot and we always feel good when he’s taking shots.”

On being within one game of the lead:
“Every game is a big game. It makes it exciting and I think as a player you want to have a chance to win a conference championship. We’re in that position, so every game is a ‘must game’. We just want to make sure we put our best foot forward.”

 Senior Guard Pierre Jackson

On the difference between the two halves:
“Just executing. Executing our offense and getting stops on defense. Just limiting them to one shot. They are a really good offensive rebounding team, so we just had to prevent that. Everything worked our way.”

Junior Guard Brady Heslip

On his breakout game:
“The last couple games I’ve been feeling a lot better. Then today, Pierre and A.J. (Walton) found me early. They did a great job of finding me when I was open from then on.”

On his teammates screening for him:
“Both of my teammates always do a good job screening for me, especially Rico. He sets some pretty tough screens. And then you have Pierre, who’s so fast. You can’t just pressure him, or else he’s just going to go around people and it forces other people to help . When my guy would help, Pierre would find me for open 3’s.”

Freshman Isaiah Austin

On the importance of winning this game:
“We’re coming down to the last stretch of the conference, so every game at this point counts. Tonight we just wanted to come out and play to the best of our ability, and that’s what we did. We couldn’t dictate to the referee’s calls, but games like this build character for us.”

On the difference in Rico’s free throws:
“Just changing up minor errors in my technique and finding that arch, that good release. It goes in.”

 Head Coach Bob Huggins

On the difference between the first and second half:
“We threw the ball to them. We had live ball turnovers that they scored on, then we kind of started hanging our heads and they beat us in transition. They have good players. They have good players that make shots. You can’t leave (Brady) Heslip open, he’s going to make shots. Everybody in America knows that, except those seven or eight guys I had guarding him. Or not guarding him.”

On Gathers’ career night:
“We do that to people. That’s one thing we’re pretty proficient at – helping guys have career nights.”

On if this loss surprises him:
“Yeah it does. But you know, it does and it doesn’t. You can’t say pass the ball more than I do in practice every day, and yet we don’t pass the ball. Our most consistent shooter has been Eron Harris, and we come down 3-on-1 and throw it to a guy who hasn’t made a shot. Why? Why do you do that? I don’t know.”

Freshman Guard Eron Harris

On how much tonight undid their past success:
“I don’t know if it undid it, but it just lets us know we still have to stay focused. We tried to come in here and get our fourth in a row, but we didn’t so we have to move on to the next game.”

On if they lost focus in the second half:
“I guess that’s accurate. Whatever you guys saw is probably right. If you saw our intensity drop, then it probably did drop. We just didn’t compete in the second half.”

Sophomore Guard Jabarie Hinds

On what Pierre Jackson does to a defense:
“He makes a defense worry. You don’t know what he’s going to do. He might come down one time, pull up and shoot. He might come down and attack and pitch. You just have to think about what he’s going to do and try to stop it.”

On how Baylor’s backcourt compares to others they’ve faced:
“They’re good. We played against Jackson last year, and then Heslip hit a couple shots and he hit a couple more tonight. I think we can stop them, it’s just a focus thing.”
